A Website is not a Business

The sad fact is that the greatest majority of people who spend the money and take the time to start an online business never succeed and quit in frustration after a few months. There are many reasons why that happens but I believe that the single greatest reason why most people fail is that they never gave themselves a good start.

You can buy fancy looking websites on eBay that talk about “multiple streams of income” but most of those websites will never generate a nickel in revenue for their owners. When you view the source html for many of those websites you won’t find anything other than javascript code that points to a store that is actually located at amazon.com and some adsense code that points nowhere.

Those sites look good but nobody searching the internet to get information or to buy something will ever find them. Why? Because they have no content.

Google became a huge success because when somebody searches for a specific item Google delivers the most relevant pages for that item out of the 50 billion or so internet pages out there. If your website is not one of those “most relevant” pages for that item then you are wasting your time. A business without customers is a hobby.

There are some fundamentals about building a website that will make it “relevant” to Google and reward you with customers. The more relevant pages you put on your website the more potential customers will find you and buy what you have to sell. It really is that simple. The words on the page make it relevant. Why make it more complicated than it has to be?
